Struggling to not hit your teeth when you’re giving a blowjob? Well, don’t worry! Here’s everything you need to know to keep those chompers out of the way and ensure pleasure is the only thing he needs to worry about it.

PSA: A good blowjob isn’t just putting his dick in your mouth and bobbing up and down. It isn’t just sucking his cock. It’s using your lips, tongue, and hands on him. Stroking and licking and massaging him. Basically, it’s worshiping his dick.

While every person is different, most men agree that too much teeth can ruin a blowjob. Sure, there are some men out there who do like a little nibble, but assume he’ll let you know if that’s the case, and keep those pearly whites tucked away.

But how do you do that? What if you try to keep your teeth off of his cock, but you just can’t seem to do it? I’ve got a few strategies for you to try.

Forget what the sitcoms show you.

blowjob rhythm

The first thing that many folks think of when they think of a blowjob mouth is opening the mouth wide, forming a big “O” and pulling your lips around your teeth. That’s the “O” technique. And sure, it looks kind of funny. But in reality, it’s not sustainable. It makes your lips go numb and your mouth tucker out quicker than necessary.

Plus, it doesn’t feel as good for the person with the penis. Your tight lips aren’t as soft as your relaxed lips, which means they likely won’t bring him as much pleasure.

Instead, try this.

Relax the top lip and jaw. In most people, this relaxation allows the top lip to cover the teeth. Now use your tongue to cover your lower teeth.

In a great blowjob, your tongue should take center stage and be the star (when in doubt, add more tongue!). So, if your tongue is out and moving around, it naturally falls between your teeth and his penis.

Even if you’re not comfortable making your tongue active (that’s totally okay), then simply stick it out enough that it’s covering the bottom teeth and allow it to sheath his penis.

Hitting the back teeth?

If you’re still hitting him with your teeth, find out where. Sometimes, if you have a small mouth or your partner’s cock is girthy, you can catch him with the insides of your molars. There’s not a whole lot you can do to stop this other than changing your blowjob approach.

Here are a few things to try:

  • Don’t go too deep: If putting his dick all the way in your mouth makes it hit your teeth, don’t put him in that deep.
  • Or too fast: The faster you go during a blowjob, the more likely that you’ll scrape his shaft. So slow down and really enjoy the experience.
  • Use your hands or a penis sleeve: If you can’t take him too deep, use your hand or, depending on his length, a sleeve to create more sensation while you focus your oral attentions on other erotic areas.
  • Focus on the head: The head of the penis is one of the most sensitive areas so give it some extra love. You can also use your mouth to play with his frenulum, balls, and taint.
  • Wear a mouthguard: You can even find ones with vibrators in them!
  • Try fruit roll-ups over the back teeth: They make gummy mouth guards, but rumor on the street is they don’t work well and are pretty gross. If you want to try to make your own, squish a fruit roll-up over your molars and see if that helps!
  • Practice, practice, practice: Like any skill, your blowjobs get better with practice! Practice on your partner, but if he’s gun shy, peel a banana and use it. The soft flesh of the fruit allows you to monitor your teeth and know when they’re hitting.
